3 players per team, each select a random card to role play
You have 5 minutes to devise a spectacular, socially inclusive, trendy art project these characters would create.
Each team has 2 min to pitch to win the grant, using the strength of their card characters to convince the jury.
After the pitch 2-3 participants act as peer assessor jury, using one card each, as their critical lens to judge the projects.
This game is loud and hysterical, as it invites participants to compete to win.
Change Media's artistic director, Jen Lyons-Reid, tests the game with participants
Discuss how it felt. It’s easy to see other people’s privilege, but if we are creating change together, we need to discover how many oppressive social rules we internalize to participate in our democratic culture. Through playful exaggeration we are able to engage with these rules differently and may see similarities and differences to our normalized behaviors and mindsets.
The pitching competition is a great exercise to rapid prototype ideas and to grasp the often well intended, yet tokenistic power play that is underpinning most collaborations.
