300 people attended the launch of the ‘Ngarrindjeri Yunnan Yarluwar Ruwe’ exhibition on Sunday, June 4th, 2017. Ngarrindjeri elder Major Sumner and the Tal Kin Jeri dancers launched the exhibition with a Welcome to Country ceremony at the Murray Bridge Regional Gallery.
The Ngarrindjeri Culture Hub is an ongoing Change Media and Ngarrindjeri Regional Authority partnership to create and promote Ngarrindjeri arts and culture, in collaboration with Ngarrindjeri artists and their communities across Ngarrindjeri country.
Envisaged as a three to five year project, we will create multiform artworks for curated exhibitions, including digital artworks and videos, to prominently showcase Ngarrindjeri art and culture online and across the region. We will commission a series of Ngarrindjeri artists to create high quality artworks & co-create with their communities to establish the Ngarrindjeri Culture Hub. Our aim is to build cultural capital by connecting Ngarrindjeri artists, communities and a range of tourism and council stakeholders to new audiences, and place Ngarrindjeri culture, arts and language proudly on the map.
The first exhibition is scheduled for June 2nd -July 16, 2017, at the Murray Bridge Regional Gallery, with the aim to continue over the coming years an annual event, run by Ngarrindjeri.
As of December 2016, we have produced the first series of Ngarrindjeri artist profiles, which won Best Factual Web Series at the International Melbourne WebFest 2016, and was invited to screen at ABC iView's Arts Channel. We are now in the second phase of the project, with another series of artists profiles ready for the launch on June 4th, 2017.
This project has been assisted by the Australian Government through the Australia Council for the Arts, its arts funding and advisory body, and by the South Australian Government through Arts SA.
