Where are we now? What do we want? What gets in our way?
1. Why create together?
Building equitable partnerships
Introduction to workshop plan
What does it means to co-create? How we devolve power? How do we improve our abilities to speak back to power and address bullying?
Negotiate culturally safe ground rules and determine who monitors emotions, time and process.
Two artists facilitate - One artist leads the workshop, while the other monitors and assists.
AUSLAN interpreters / visual describers if needed.
Participants outline their core aims and what inclusion and co-leading means to them.
As a group we agree on the 2-day workshop whiteboard overview and reflection/feedback times.
2. What’s out there and is it for us?
Review worst, mediocre, best practice examples, discuss what works, and doesn’t work for your organization?
This session reveals shared values, visions and aims.
Together we establish our common ground as a reference point that we are here, voluntarily, creating together for progressive change, so we can respectfully begin the challenging work of exploring how we all participate in power, privilege and oppressive behavior.
Groups already have received basic card decks. Allow for time to reflect and re-familiarize themselves with the card characters.
In pitch training session and role-play scenarios we use the cards to develop fun ways to be assertive when faced with privileged and oppressive behaviours and how to creativley speak back to these characters in our arts practice and in daily life.
Our long term / Year 2 aim is to produce a digital and hard-copy resource kit that will include a/v description, captions and braille text on cards and booklets.
